9 Teacher strategies to improve average performance of the class

Being an Education Manager myself, it has always been my earnest endeavor to watch each student is performing at Their best. I have found that there is no magical wand that can help you improve average performance of the class. But it is a collaborated effort made by the students, their parents, and of course us as the teachers.
Here are my ten recommendations of specific and measurable actions which a teacher can implement to improve average performance of the class:

Increase parents’ involvement

It is very important to share information about students’ performances with their parents. Its always to be persisted to be in touch with all students’ parents. Teachers make it a point to specially discuss with them their child’s academic performances and general conduct. They also make sure that I highlight where their child needs improvement. In my opinion, the more informed the parents are, the more likely it is that students will get support at their homes.
When you interact with parents, make sure that they have all the details needed to help their child be successful. Stay in constant touch with them, assign homework that requires parents’ involvement, get them to participate more in their child’s education. You will observe how slowly the average performance of the class improves.

Inculcate note taking

Believe it or not, you must inculcate the habit of taking notes in students. Earlier as a student myself, I used to write every important point during my class lectures. This helped me greatly to understand and learn things faster. Not just that, note-taking improved my grasping power and helped sharpen my memory too. Now as a teacher, I make sure each student is writing and maintaining their practice notebooks.
Note that your students are writing down the important points that you teach in class. Trust me, you will be amazed to see the sharp improvement in their academic performances which in turn will improve average performance of the class.

Encourage the strategies for learning

For becoming successful learners, students must discover within themselves how they can learn. Every child has a particular way of learning things. Help them to speak out the ways in which they feel comfortable in the class. I have experienced, if students set their own academic goals, it will automatically reflect in their academic performances.

Invest in yourself

As a teacher, you form a learning environment for your students. Therefore, it becomes imperative for you to keep learning and gaining knowledge that you can impart to your students as well. I always make it a point to read newspapers, different articles, blogs, surf the Internet, etc. in order to be abreast with the latest happenings and knowledge on various topics. I conduct many random discussion sessions in the class with students. Such sessions not only break the monotony of the class but also emerge as a happy break for the students.

Group weaker child with a bright one

A class is a mixture of all kinds of students. It is necessary to teach children from a young age to interact with different kind of people. This used to be primary idea behind grouping the weaker children with the brighter ones.
Organize the seating arrangement of students in a very conscious manner. Encouraging the stronger kids to mix with the weaker students makes a lot of difference. Doing so often makes the brighter ones help the weaker ones. You will notice that soon the weaker ones will follow the bright student’s learning methods and be motivated to study better.

Discipline

Make sure that your class is quiet and disciplined while you are teaching. You should be patient and strict while teaching you students. Teachers warn them about the fact that I’m uncompromising and stringent as far as discipline in concerned. I have found that a disciplined class performs better than having noisy and loud brats in it. This helps in concentrating on what is going on in the class. Students will understand the importance of time and studies.

Assign projects

Projects are a great way of improving the average performance of the class. It is a fun way of learning new things. You can assign different projects based on the course content. This would help students understand things in much deeper and better way. I have experienced that if students are involved in the projects, they will read books, surf the Internet, and explore more in order to complete it. This greatly increases their knowledge on the subject and also makes them more diligent.

Reward the students

Ask the students to learn some lessons and be prepared for the tests or quizzes on the same. Declare that for every correct answer they will receive a reward. You can either give them some candies or prepare badges of appreciation which they can wear. You can also promise to make them watch some educational movies. This is a really great way of boosting their morale to study and thus improve average performance of the class.

Conduct extra classes

In a class, there are always some students who need more attention and help. You can organize extra classes for the poor performing students. You can know where they exactly lack and where they need extra work. Many Schools to often formulate such study routines and methodology for the weaker students. With a little more dedication and additional hours of teaching, I found that the performances of the weaker students in class is improved which led to  improvement in the average performance of the class.

Provide supportive Feedback

Giving specific feedback is always supportive and helpful in a student’s learning process. Providing students with the constructive and encouraging feedback on their performances helps them to strive better towards learning. Communicating with the students greatly help them in knowing their strengths as well as weaknesses.

Over the tenure of my educational experience, I have summed up these strategies that help in creating an environment for improving the average performances of the class.

Homework - The extra Burden to kids and root for Stress

There is always a debate for Homework whether it should be abolished or retained. Many of us has different opinion in this regard. Like Ramakrishna Param Hans Said it rightly. Jata mat Tat path. ” The more opinion the more ways”   I also quote the proverb “ Practice makes a man Perfect” Mind it its man not a child. The moto of education is to make a child a citizen, a Human Being not Perfect. Thanks to Ministry of HRD who really heard the cry of these innocent minds. After long-drawn school hours, kids return home and immediately get down to tackling the day’s homework. Where is the time to relax and do other extra-curricular activities?Does homework need to be rethought so that it is less of a burden and engages the child more effectively? School-related stomachaches, headaches, sleep problems and depression are on the rise. Parents too have a hard time, often doing a major part of the homework to help out the child. Kids are all supposed to be having the physical activity
